Calanais - The Sounding of the Old Whale

“The eerie mournful calls of whales, the measuring of fathoms to ensure safe passage, a hint of Ahab and the Great White Whale”
Notes by Peter Townsend on The Sounding of the Old Whale

The Sounding of the Old Whale was commissioned in 1995 for the exhibition, Calanais, where artists were asked to respond to this significant site of megalithic standing stones.
