In Poussin's painting 'Et In Arcadia Ego,' the shepherdess and her shepherds ponder human mortality against a backdrop of natural splendour. In the image used here, the principle characters in my father's photograph are carefree. The abattoir is hung with sheep carcasses: the death of nature.
